Christopher was approached by Korean game developer XL games to write a new theme song for Civilization Online, a new MMO based on the Civilization franchise. The task was to write and record a successor to his enormously popular theme to Civilization IV, 'Baba Yetu'--but with an Asian twist.
Christopher put on his ethnomusicologist hat, and proceeded to research Asian vocal traditions that might work well for this creative brief. He found what he was looking for in the mountains of Taiwan, where the aboriginal natives of Taiwan have a strong vocal tradition. He then flew to Taiwan to work with the singers--a folk singer named Hao-En Wu, and an aboriginal children's choir called the Taiwu Children's Ancient Ballads Troupe. He called the new piece 'Song of the Mountain', in reference to the mountain home of the singers.
